Your keyboard test stays in your browser

The tester processes your key presses on your device. Detailed keyboard results — including which keys you press and any combinations — are not sent to us, analytics, advertising or affiliate services.

PDF and CSV reports are generated in your browser for you to download. This site does not upload or keep the contents of those reports.

Information stored on your device

By default, the site can remember the keyboard model, layout and style you selected so they are ready on your next visit. This is stored only in this browser. Open Change keyboard on the tester and switch off “Remember my keyboard setup on this browser” to clear the saved setup and stop future changes being remembered.

The site also stores your analytics choice so it can respect it on later visits. If you clear this site’s browser data, these preferences may be removed and return to their defaults.

Usage analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use the site and improve it. Analytics is separate from keyboard testing. The only custom product events record that a test started and that a report was generated; they do not include which keys you press, typed characters, combinations, raw timing, coverage or report contents.

Google Analytics can process ordinary usage information such as page and session activity, browser and device information and approximate location. We use it only to improve the site, not for advertising or profiling. Advertising signals are disabled in the site code.

You can turn optional analytics off at any time using Privacy choices below. The keyboard tester works normally whether analytics is on or off.

Hosting and ordinary request information

Like most websites, the hosting and network services used to deliver this site may process ordinary request information such as your IP address, browser information, the page requested and the time of the request. This is used to deliver the site, protect it and investigate reliability or security problems.

Our lawful basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in operating a secure and reliable website. We keep or require providers to keep this information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for those purposes.

Our legal basis and your choices

Where personal information is processed to deliver, secure or improve this free service, we rely on our legitimate interests, balanced against your rights. If optional analytics is enabled, it is used only to understand and improve the service.

UK rules allow browser storage for these purposes when users are clearly informed and have a simple, free way to object. You can turn off remembered keyboard setup and analytics separately.

How long information is kept

• Keyboard observations and report contents are not retained by this site.
• Your remembered keyboard setup stays in this browser until you switch remembering off, replace the saved setup, or clear the site’s browser data.
• Your analytics preference stays in this browser until you change it or clear the site’s browser data.
• Hosting and security records are kept only for as long as reasonably needed for delivery, reliability and security.
• If optional analytics is enabled, analytics data is kept only as long as needed to produce site-improvement statistics, then aggregated or removed according to the service settings.

Your data protection rights

UK data protection law gives you rights over personal information that an organisation holds about you. Depending on the circumstances, these can include access, correction, deletion, restriction and objection. Some rights depend on the lawful basis and the type of processing involved.

Because detailed keyboard results and reports never leave your device, we do not hold them and cannot retrieve or delete them for you. You can clear this site’s browser data and delete any report files you downloaded.

Advertising and affiliate activity

Advertising and affiliate programmes are not active. No advertising, affiliate or commercial tracking provider is connected to this build.

Detailed keyboard observations are not used to choose commercial content. If advertising or affiliate services are activated in future, the privacy and disclosure information must be updated for the providers and tracking actually used before or when they are activated.

What this tester can and cannot prove

This tester shows which key presses reached the browser. A key that is not observed here is not automatically broken, because the keyboard, browser or operating system may handle some input before the webpage can see it.

It cannot certify the overall health of a keyboard or identify the exact reason a press was missed or repeated. Reports record what the browser observed; they are not hardware certificates or fault diagnoses.

Terms of use

Does My Keyboard Work? is a free browser utility and supporting information service. You may use it for ordinary personal, educational or work-related keyboard checking and troubleshooting.

We aim to keep the service accurate and available, but we cannot guarantee that every key or device-specific feature can be observed in every browser or operating system. We also cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. Use the results alongside other checks rather than as a guarantee about hardware condition.

Do not misuse the site, attempt to interfere with its operation, or use it in a way that is unlawful. When troubleshooting physical hardware, follow the manufacturer’s safety and repair instructions for the device.

The site’s original text, design and software are protected by applicable intellectual-property rights. These terms do not limit any consumer or other legal rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Governing law and updates

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory rights that apply to you where you live.

We may update this page when the service, analytics, commercial providers or legal requirements change. Material changes should be reflected here when they take effect.
